Niš

Coat of arms of Niš were granted in 1996.

According to Statute of City of Niš, adopted on 6th of June 2002 in Basic decisions in article 9, official description of the flag of Niš reads:

The flag of Niš, in proportion 1:2, is blue with the municipal coat of arms in the upper right corner, covering 1/6 of the flag.

In spite of this description, flag in use is often about 2:3 in ratio. This territorial unit ignored serban heraldic standards, which imply usage of banner of arms as flag.

Usage of basic arms of Niš is ignored by the authorities. Greater arms is in use in various occasions not suitable for greater arms, such as on TV weather forecasts for example.

Supporters on greater arms are Stevan Siđelić (right) and Constantine the Great, Roman emperor (left).
